Academic Update 11/11 - 11/15

*We will work with basic operations with rational numbers and the coordinate plane this week.  Our Integer Unit Test will be on Tuesday, November 19th.  For students that struggled with our fraction and decimal units, this may be a challenging week.  We will use their prior knowledge of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions and decimals to now include negative fractions and decimals as well.  There will be a study session on Tuesday, Nov. 19th.

*IXL Contract 2-2 will be given on Tuesday, November 12th and due Friday, November 22nd at 3:00.  This will replace our CR for the week of 11/11 and 11/18.  Please encourage your child to work on this over the course of the two weeks and not wait until the last minute.

*POTW #2 (Extra Credit) will be posted by Monday, November 11th and due Monday, November 18th.

Academic Update 11/4 - 11/8

*We will review subtracting integers on Monday, cover multiplying and dividing integers on Tuesday.  Our Integer Quiz will be on Friday, November 8th.  Please encourage your child to ask questions, use ETA efficiently, and attend morning ETA if they need help.

Academic Update 10/28 - 11/1

*We will review on Monday for our Chapter 1 Test and will take the test on Tuesday, Oct. 29th.  I passed back the Chapter 1 Quiz on Friday and they will be posted in INOW this evening.   I will have a study session on Tuesday at 7:30 in my room.  You can find a study session pass HERE if you wish to attend.  We will begin our integers unit on Wednesday and cover adding and subtracting integers the rest of the week.

*POTW #1 (Extra Credit) was posted on Friday to this blog and will be due this Friday, November 1st.

*Remember there is math help each morning at 7:30 in room 112 during Morning ETA.  I am personally there on Monday and Friday each week.

Academic Update 10/21 - 10/25

*We will begin translating expressions this week and move into simplifying algebraic expressions by collecting like terms and using the distributive property.  We are moving into more difficult concepts and students need to be sure they are asking questions if they are not understanding.

*No quizzes or tests this week.

*POTW #1 (Extra Credit) will be posted by Wednesday due by next Friday, November 1st.

Academic Update 10/14 - 10/18

*We have finished the first nine weeks!   Most of our topics moving forward will be new to the students.  If they have managed to not study up to this point, you may want to encourage them to do so with this new material.  We will introduce expressions on Tuesday and learn how to evaluate an expression given a value for the variable.  We will review Wednesday and Thursday for our Chapter 1 Quiz that will be taken on Friday, October 18th.

*Reminder...no 10% grades (HW) can be made-up unless they are due to an absence and marked with a 0.01 in INOW.  I had a few students trying to make-up 0.00 grades at the last minute.

Academic Update 10/7 - 10/11

*We will begin working in Chapter 1 on Wednesday as we look at the order of operations and mathematical properties.  Our next quiz will be next week.

*Chapter 1 Quiz ~ tentatively Thursday, Oct. 17th 

*Any make-up assignments (0.01) are due by Thursday, October 10th.

*POTW #3 (Extra Credit) - last chance for extra credit! You can find the POTW posted on the math blog under the tab "Problem of the Week".   They are due by Thursday, October 10th.

Academic Update 9/30 - 10/4

*We will focus on division of fractions on Monday and will look at word problems involving multiplication and division of fractions on Tues. and Wed.  Our fraction unit test will be on Friday, October 4th.   I will have a study session on Thursday morning at 7:30.  HERE is the pass for the study session.

*Remember there is morning ETA each day from 7:30 - 8:05 in room 112.  There are math teachers there each day to help with homework that a student may have struggled on, work through your weekly CR, etc.   I am personally there each Monday and Friday.

*Be watching INOW for many updates as we near the end of the nine weeks.  There are some major grades that will be entered over the next two weeks.

*POTW #2 (Extra Credit) is posted on the blog right above this update using the "Problem of the Week" tab.  It is due Monday, September 30th.  There will be one more round given on Thursday Oct. 3rd and due next Thursday, October 10th.
